ACCESSIBILITY
Our Approach
In line with our theme this year, we want to create the most accessible and inclusive conference as we can. Some of the features and considerations are added below for your information. If you have any queries or don't see something here that you know would make you feel more comfortable attending or contributing to the conference then please do let us know; we cannot promise to provide everything but what we can promise is that we will listen and work with you to try and find the best solution we can.
A quiet space
One room at the venue is a designated quiet space dedicated to BSL and non-verbal communication only. This space can be used for anything, so if you are feeling overwhelmed, want some quiet space to decompress, need some alone time, or simply don't want to communicate verbally for a while head to the quiet space and let your brain non-brain for a little while.
Zero Tolerance
BABAO's code of conduct will be upheld and anyone in breach of this will be politely asked to leave. We will have designated member of the organising team to raise any issues to across the weekend. Find the code of conduct here!

No judgement
Whether it be fidget toys, grounding items, safe sensory toys, or comforting blankets, you are welcome to bring whatever you need to help you feel more comfortable and confident. We recognise that conferences are by nature social events that require extended periods of concentration. We encourage everyone to respect each others needs, space, and attention.

Traffic Light Badge System
Conference badges will include a colour coded panel denoting social availability as per below;
Green - I would like to meet and socialise with new people, please approach me!
Yellow - I would like to socialise with familiar people; if we have not already met let me approach you!
Red - I don't feel like socialising right now, please give me some space!
Outdoor Space
Keele Hall is situated off the main campus thoroughfare and surrounded by beautiful woodland, gardens, and lakes. If you need some space and fresh air then you are welcome to take a wonder through the grounds and connect with nature for a while.
Virtual Streaming
The conference will be hosted as a hybrid event with both online and in-person attendees and presenters. We are aiming to have all talks streamed live to a separate room so if the main conference room/live audience becomes too much or you need to attend to other business, you are free to head in there without missing any of the content.
Mobility around Campus
Keele Hall is situated off a fairly steep hill. There is a car park next to the hall, but the accommodation facilities are all a short walk away. If you require help, please contact the organisers in advance and we can arrange lifts to and from accommodation to assist.
Dependents
If you are joining the conference with a dependent or support animal/human then please let us know so we can ensure we provide and cater for facilities as required. For support animals, please could you also let us know their species so that we can manage allergies and facilities as appropriate!
BSL
Don't forget we are championing BSL and raising deaf awareness this year! head to the BSL web page to find out more!

Buffet Food
Lunch and dinner are served in buffet format as opposed to a formal three-course meal. This means you are able to enjoy the food at your own pace in your own way. There will be vegetarian and vegan options provided, and space to declare preferences and allergies at the time of registration. Finally, although food is included in the ticket price, you are welcome to bring your own if that is more comfortable for you.
Dress code
There is no formal dress code for this event, we would like you to wear whatever is most comfortable for you. However, please ensure that any graphics or slogans on items of clothing are not sensitive/graphic or could be deemed as offensive in nature, as to uphold the BABAO code of conduct.
